Professional Guitar Setup & Adjustments

Guitar setup services from Two Feathers Guitars are designed to improve the way your instrument feels, plays, tunes, and responds. A proper setup can make a huge difference in comfort, intonation, tuning stability, action, pickup balance, and overall playability.

Whether your guitar has developed buzzing, high action, tuning problems, poor intonation, or simply does not feel right anymore, a professional setup can often restore the instrument and make it much more enjoyable to play.

What Is Included in a Guitar Setup?

A professional guitar setup is more than changing strings or making one adjustment. It involves evaluating how the neck, bridge, strings, pickups, and hardware are working together.

Depending on the instrument and what it needs, a setup may include neck relief adjustment, action adjustment, intonation, pickup height, bridge adjustment, tuning checks, string changes, and a general inspection of the instrument’s playability.

Action Adjustment

String action has a major effect on the way a guitar feels. If the strings are too high, the instrument can feel difficult to play. If they are too low, buzzing and unwanted fret noise can develop.

We adjust action based on the instrument, the player’s preferences, string gauge, and playing style. The goal is a comfortable balance between easy playability and clean note response.

Intonation Adjustment

Good intonation helps your guitar play in tune across the fretboard. When intonation is off, open chords may sound correct while notes farther up the neck sound sharp or flat.

During a guitar setup, intonation can be checked and adjusted so that the instrument plays more accurately across the neck.

Neck Relief & Truss Rod Adjustment

The neck of a guitar naturally reacts to string tension, temperature, humidity, and normal use. Too much or too little neck relief can create buzzing, high action, or uneven playability.

When appropriate, the truss rod can be carefully adjusted to help establish the proper amount of neck relief for the instrument.

Pickup Height & Tone Balance

Pickup height can affect both output and tone. Pickups that are too close to the strings may sound harsh or interfere with string vibration, while pickups that are too far away may sound weak or unbalanced.

We can check and adjust pickup height as part of the setup process to help balance volume and response between the strings and between pickup positions.

Tuning Stability

If your guitar will not stay in tune, the problem may involve the strings, nut, bridge, tuners, setup, or a combination of factors.

As part of the setup process, we inspect the instrument for common causes of tuning instability and make appropriate adjustments where possible.

String Changes & String Gauge Changes

Changing string gauge can affect neck relief, action, intonation, and overall feel. Moving from lighter to heavier strings, or vice versa, may require the instrument to be readjusted.

If you are changing string gauges or tuning styles, a fresh setup can help the guitar adapt properly to the new tension.

Electric Guitar & Bass Setup

Two Feathers Guitars provides setup and adjustment services for electric guitars and basses. Different bridge systems, neck designs, pickup configurations, and playing styles can require different approaches.

Every instrument is evaluated individually rather than treated like a one-size-fits-all setup.

When Should You Get a Guitar Setup?

You may want to schedule a setup if your guitar has high action, fret buzz, poor intonation, tuning problems, uneven pickup output, uncomfortable playability, or if you have recently changed string gauge or tuning.

Even a guitar that is functioning normally can benefit from periodic adjustments as the instrument changes over time.
